Umar Sharif (b. 1990) is a Kuala Lumpur-based visual artist and art worker whose conceptual practice explores memory, identity, and the semiotics of everyday objects.
After graduating with a degree in architecture, Umar has since pivoted to artistic practice and has been actively showing in group exhibitions around Malaysia since 2023. Recent group exhibitions include the ILHAM Art Show 2025 (ILHAM Gallery, KL), ShrineShare (2025, Space 293, Petaling Jaya), Malu Tapi Mahu (2024, Space 293, Petaling Jaya), and CONSENT (2024, Temu House, Petaling Jaya).
Umar is also selected to participate in the upcoming 2026 Khazanah Associate Artist Residency (KAAR) organised by Khazanah Nasional Berhad. As part of the residency, Umar will be heading to London this September to participate in a 12-week program at ACME Studios.
